With around 50,000 units produced between 1938 and 1945, the compact little Kubelwagen Type 82 was a trusty servant for German WWII forces with its mass production-friendly angular body and air-cooled 4-cylinder engine, as well as 4-wheel independent suspension and a differential gear that made it at home on tricky surfaces and saw it entrusted with reconnaissance missions. Following requests from the troops there it was also shipped to North Africa from 1942, often fitted with balloon tires to improve its performance on the desert sands. Added to that, its air-cooled engine did not require liquid to cool it, meaning it was easier maintained and a reliable workhorse for Africa Corps units.
